How to Buy Bearings from China
A practical guide to sourcing bearings from China: how to specify models, what to ask in an RFQ, and how to compare quotations.
Buying bearings from China works well when both sides agree on exactly what is being made before production starts. Most problems with a Chinese bearing supplier come from a model number that was incomplete, a clearance or seal that was never stated, or packaging that nobody specified. This guide walks through the buying process step by step, from identifying the bearing to receiving the documents, and links to the detailed guides for each step. If you are still choosing a factory, start with how to check a bearing manufacturer in China.
Are Chinese bearings good quality?
China’s bearing industry makes everything from budget bearings for light duty to precision bearings for machine tools and railways. The country on the box does not tell you the grade on its own. Quality comes from four places:
- Raw material. Clean GCr15 from a known mill, backed by a material certificate.
- Heat treatment. It sets ring hardness and resistance to wear.
- Grinding. Raceway finish and roundness decide how smoothly and how long a bearing runs.
- Quality control. Dimensions, clearance and vibration checked on every batch, with records.
Low-quality bearings usually fall short on one of these. Large groups such as ZWZ in Wafangdian and LYC in Luoyang, make high-grade industrial lines. International makers also operate there for the domestic and global market. So the useful question is not the country. It is whether a given company can show its material, its process and its inspection records. Our page on bearing manufacturers in China explains how to check that.
The buying process at a glance
| Step | What happens | What you send or receive |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Identify | Find the exact designation of each bearing | Model numbers with prefixes and suffixes; photos; dimensions |
| 2. Inquire | Send the list to the supplier | Quantities, requirements, marking, destination port |
| 3. Confirm | Supplier matches each number to a standard model and lists any exceptions | Specification sheet |
| 4. Quote | Price per model on a stated trade term | Quotation |
| 5. Produce and inspect | Bearings are made or picked from stock and checked | Inspection report on request |
| 6. Pack and mark | Packing, box printing, ring marking and shipping marks as agreed | Packing list |
| 7. Ship and document | Goods move under the agreed trade term | Commercial invoice, certificate of origin, bill of lading |
Step 1: Identify the bearing exactly
The bearing number is a specification, not a name. A 6205 with no suffix is open with normal clearance. A 6205-2RS/C3 has two rubber seals and larger internal clearance. They are different products, made differently, and the supplier cannot guess which one you meant.
Copy the full number from the old bearing, ring or box, including every letter before and after the digits. Prefix and suffix letters are easy to leave out, and in our experience they are what inquiries miss most often. Without them the factory cannot judge the quality and features you need. If the number has worn off, measure bore, outside diameter and width with a caliper and use the bearing size finder.
If all you have is an OEM part number from an equipment maker, send it with the dimensions. Each maker uses its own numbering, and the work is to confirm which standard bearing that OEM number stands for. When you need to match a brand designation to a standard size, the bearing cross reference pages cover the common series.
Our separate guide on how to avoid ordering the wrong bearing lists the common mix-ups and a pre-order check.
Step 2: Send a complete inquiry
A complete inquiry gets a correct quote in one round. Include:
- Model number, exactly as marked, and quantity for each line.
- Clearance (C2, C0, C3, C4) if it is not normal.
- Seal or shield type, if not already in the suffix.
- Precision class or noise grade, if your application needs more than standard.
- Grease type or temperature range, if it matters.
- Marking: your authorized brand, the factory brand or neutral.
- Packaging and shipping-mark requirements, if any.
- Destination port and the trade term you want (FOB, CIF and so on).
- Any inspection items or certificates you need.
Our guide on how to request a bearing quotation has a copy-ready template for this list. If you are still deciding whether to buy from a local stockist or from a factory, see bearing distributor vs factory direct.
Step 3: Confirm the specification before production
Before production, a careful supplier sends back a specification sheet that lists each model as it will be made. At FULI we work from our own specification sheet. If an item in your inquiry cannot be supplied exactly as asked, we mark it as an exception on the same sheet instead of substituting a different bearing without telling you. Read the sheet line by line. This is the cheapest point to catch a wrong suffix.
Step 4: Compare quotations on the same basis
Quotes from different suppliers are only comparable if they describe the same bearing, the same packaging and the same trade term. A low price for an open C0 bearing in bulk packing cannot be compared with a price for a sealed C3 bearing in individual boxes. Our guide to reading a bearing price list explains each line of a quote and gives a comparison checklist.
Step 5: Production and inspection
Bearings in common series are often shipped from stock; others are produced to order. Large inventory stocked for immediate dispatch covers many standard sizes. Ask which lines are in stock when you request the quote.
Before shipment our factory checks each batch for rotation smoothness, dimensions, grease fill, rust and appearance. Internal clearance is set on automatic assembly equipment and checked periodically during production. Deep groove ball bearings are tested on vibration and noise instruments and supplied at Z3V3 as standard. An inspection report can be issued with the shipment, covering dimensions, radial clearance, rotation noise, vibration, appearance, material certificate and batch traceability. Rings and rolling elements are GCr15 chrome bearing steel, and the steel maker’s material certificate is available on request for OEM and industrial orders.
If you want to know the number and size of balls in a bearing, ask. These are standard parts, and we give the figures.
Step 6: Packaging and marking
Agree the packaging before production, because box printing and ring marking are done before packing. Boxes show the model, grade and brand. Cartons carry shipping marks for your warehouse and customs. Tell us how you need the bearings packed and we will confirm whether we can supply it. Our guide to bearing packaging and export marking covers what to specify.
Step 7: Shipping and documents
The trade term decides who pays for what and where the risk passes. FOB and CIF are the most common for bearings from China; the port of loading is named in the term, for example FOB Qingdao. Bearings are heavy for their volume, so the bearing weight chart helps when you estimate freight. Our FOB vs CIF guide explains the terms and when LCL or FCL makes sense. To estimate the total at your door, with duty and import charges, use the landed cost calculator.
Shipments from FULI come with a commercial invoice, a packing list and a CCPIT certificate of origin, plus an FTA Form COO where the destination country qualifies.
Common mistakes when buying bearings from China
- Sending the number without the suffix. The supplier quotes the base model and you receive open bearings when you needed sealed ones.
- Comparing prices across different specifications. The cheapest quote is often for a different bearing.
- Ordering a lower grade than the machine needs. A standard bearing in equipment designed for a low-noise or higher-precision bearing will be noisy or wear early, even if the bearing itself meets its own grade.
- Not stating clearance. If the inquiry says nothing, the factory makes normal clearance (C0). If your application needs C2 or C3, say so.
- Leaving packaging and marking to the last minute. Printed boxes and ring marking need to be agreed before production.

FAQ
What information does a Chinese bearing supplier need to quote?
The full model number with every prefix and suffix, the quantity per model, any clearance, seal, noise or precision requirement, the marking and packaging you want, and the destination port. A photo of the old bearing helps when the number is worn or is an OEM part number.
Can a bearing factory in China print my brand on the bearings?
As the customer requests, rings can be marked with the customer's authorized brand, the factory brand or neutral marking, and the box shows the model, grade and brand. Send the artwork with the order.
How do I check that the bearings I receive match what I ordered?
Ask for the specification sheet before production and an inspection report before shipment. The report can cover dimensions, radial clearance, rotation noise, vibration, appearance, material certificate and batch traceability. Compare the markings and a sample of dimensions when the goods arrive.
What export documents come with a bearing shipment from China?
A commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. FULI supplies a CCPIT certificate of origin, and an FTA Form COO where the destination country has a trade agreement with China that qualifies the goods.
Who makes good bearings?
Good bearings come from makers that control every step from material to final inspection, wherever they are. Large groups in many countries make high-grade lines, and smaller makers turn out standard grades for general use. Ask any maker for the material certificate and an inspection report on a sample before a large order.
Are SKF bearings made in China?
Some are. The Swedish maker runs plants there, as do Schaeffler (FAG), NSK, NTN and Timken, and part of that output is sold worldwide under their own names. If you need a named make, go through its authorized channel and check the country of origin on the box.
Where can I buy bearings?
For a few pieces, a local stockist or an online store is fastest. For regular volumes, an importer in your country or a manufacturer that exports directly. Many buyers use both.
What if my bearing only has an OEM part number?
Send the OEM number with the bore, outside diameter and width, and a photo of the bearing if you have it. We confirm which standard bearing the OEM number corresponds to before quoting, and show it on the specification sheet.
