Tolerances and fits for 6202

FULI makes 6202 to P0 as standard, with P6 on request. P0 is the Normal tolerance class of ISO 492; P6 limits are tighter. These are the P0 limits for the 15 × 35 × 11 mm size.

DimensionNominal, mmDeviation, µmLimits, mm
Bore d (Δdmp)150 / −815.000 / 14.992
Outside diameter D (ΔDmp)350 / −1135.000 / 34.989
Width B (ΔBs)110 / −12011.000 / 10.880

Δdmp and ΔDmp: deviation of the mean bore and mean outside diameter in one radial plane. ΔBs: inner ring width; the outer ring width has the same limits.

Shaft and housing fits (general guidance)

For an inner ring that turns with a solid steel shaft under normal load, bearing makers’ fit tables give 15 j5 for the shaft of 6202. The housing bore is usually H7, or J7 where the outer ring must not creep.

SeatDeviation, µmLimits, mmFit with 6202
Shaft 15 j5+5 / −315.005 / 14.99713 µm interference to 3 µm clearance
Housing 35 H7+25 / 035.025 / 35.0000 to 36 µm clearance
Housing 35 J7+14 / −1135.014 / 34.98911 µm interference to 25 µm clearance

Taking the loosest and the tightest combination of limits, a P0 6202 on a 15 mm j5 shaft has 13 µm interference to 3 µm clearance. Its outer ring has 0 to 36 µm clearance in an H7 bore and 11 µm interference to 25 µm clearance in a J7 bore.

This is general guidance, not a FULI specification. Heavy or shock loads, a hollow shaft, a thin-walled, split or light-alloy housing, or a large temperature difference between shaft and housing call for other classes, and the drawing of your machine takes priority. A tight shaft fit or a hot housing uses up internal clearance, and that is when C3 is chosen instead of C0.

If the outer ring turns and the shaft stands still, as in an idler pulley or a wheel hub, the fits are reversed: the housing gets the interference fit (for example N7 or P7) and the shaft a sliding one (g6 or h6).

The 6202 bearing dimensions are 15 mm bore, 35 mm outside diameter and 11 mm width. It is one of the smallest bearings in the 6200 series and one of the most ordered, because the same 15 mm shaft turns up in ceiling fans, small motors, pumps and motorcycle wheels. This page covers what the number means, the load and speed figures from our catalog, the seal and clearance choices, and the size mix-ups to watch for in a 6202 inquiry.

6202 bearing dimensions explained

A 6202 is a single row deep groove ball bearing. The 6 is the bearing type and the 2 is the diameter series. The last two digits are the bore code [1].

Here is the first trap. For most bearings the bore code times 5 gives the bore, so 6205 has a 25 mm bore. The four smallest codes do not follow that rule: 00 is 10 mm, 01 is 12 mm, 02 is 15 mm and 03 is 17 mm [1]. A buyer who works out “02 x 5 = 10 mm” will look for the wrong shaft.

The boundary dimensions come from the ISO 15 general plan for radial bearings [2], so 15 x 35 x 11 mm is the same from every maker. What changes between makers is the seal design, cage, grease, internal clearance and load ratings.

The load and speed figures are in the rating table above. In short: the basic dynamic load rating Cr is 6.98 kN, the static rating C0r is 3.60 kN, and the limiting speed is 18,000 r/min with grease and 22,000 r/min with oil. Values from FULI’s catalog; confirm for your application.

In inches the envelope is 0.5906 x 1.3780 x 0.4331 in. Each bearing weighs 0.045 kg in our catalog, about 4.5 kg per 100 pieces before packing, which is the figure to use for carton and freight estimates.

Rubber contact seals rub on the inner ring and add drag. If a 6202-2RS will run near the top of that speed range, tell us the speed and we will check whether ZZ suits the job better.

6202ZZ, 6202-2RS or open

All three have the same 15 x 35 x 11 mm envelope. The suffix only tells you what covers the gap between the rings. NSK, for example, writes ZZ for two shields and DDU for two contact seals [3]; other catalogues use 2Z, 2RS, 2RSH or LLU for the same covers.

VersionWhat it isWhere 6202 buyers use it
6202 openNo cover, lubricated by the machineGearboxes and housings with their own oil
6202ZZTwo steel shields, no contact with the inner ringCeiling fans, small motors, clean indoor equipment
6202-2RSTwo rubber seals that touch the inner ringMotorcycle wheels, pumps, anything near water or dust

NSK ranks sealed bearings first for keeping dirt out, shielded bearings second and open bearings last [3]. The cost of the seal is drag, which matters more on a small, fast bearing like the 6202 than on a large slow one.

If you only need protection on one side, the single-sided versions are 6202Z and 6202-RS. Say which side faces the dirt, because a one-sided bearing fitted the wrong way round gives no protection.

Clearance: C0, C3 or C2

Radial clearance is the free play between balls and rings before mounting. A bearing with no clearance mark is Normal clearance, also written CN or C0. For a 15 mm bore, NTN’s table gives [4]:

GroupRadial clearance, 15 mm bore
C20 to 9 μm
CN (C0)3 to 18 μm
C311 to 25 μm

NSK lists the cases for larger-than-normal clearance: a tight fit on both rings, a hot inner ring, heavy or shock loads with a heavier interference fit, and high speed. Smaller-than-normal clearance is used to cut noise and vibration sharply, when both rings have a loose fit, or when clearance is adjusted to reduce runout [5].

For a 6202, C3 comes up most often in electric motors, where the inner ring is pressed onto a shaft that runs warm. Our page on electric motor bearings explains why. Write the group in the full code, for example 6202-2RS C3. Our factory sets clearance on automatic assembly equipment and checks it periodically during production, so the group must be fixed before production starts.

Where the 6202 is used

The 15 mm bore matches the shafts of many small machines. On this site the 6202 appears in:

In a wheel hub, the 6202 takes the radial load of the wheel and some side load in cornering, which a deep groove ball bearing handles in both directions [3]. In a fan or motor it runs fast with light load, which is where the low friction of ball contact helps [1].

Common 6202 ordering mistakes

Watch for four mix-ups. All dimensions below are from our specification sheet.

Same housing, wrong shaft. The 6003 bearing has the same 35 mm outside diameter as the 6202, but a 17 mm bore and 10 mm width. A 16003 is also 35 mm across, with a 17 mm bore and 8 mm width. If you measured only the outside of the old bearing, you could order any of the three.

Same shaft, wrong series. A 15 mm bore comes in several series. The 6002 is 15 x 32 x 9 mm, the 6202 is 15 x 35 x 11 mm and the 6302 is 15 x 42 x 13 mm. Thin-section 6902 and 6802 bearings share the bore too.

One size off. The 6201 is 12 x 32 x 10 mm and the 6203 is 17 x 40 x 12 mm. Motorcycle front and rear wheels often use different sizes, so read both old bearings before ordering a set.

Missing letters. Inquiries often arrive as “6202” with no suffix. The letters tell the factory whether you need shields or seals, which clearance group, and sometimes which cage. Copy everything printed on the ring or shield.

Our guide on how to avoid ordering the wrong bearing covers the general rules.

How to check a 6202 sample

Measuring a 6202 takes a caliper and a few minutes.

  1. Measure the bore at two points 90° apart. Both readings should be 15 mm within the tolerance of the precision class.
  2. Measure the outside diameter the same way: 35 mm.
  3. Measure the width across both rings: 11 mm.
  4. Read the marking on the ring face or shield. The designation and suffix should match your order.
  5. Turn the inner ring by hand while holding the outer ring. It should turn evenly, without catches.

If the marking has worn off, those three numbers are enough to identify a 6202. Our bearing size finder does the lookup from measurements.

How we supply the 6202

Rings and balls are GCr15 chrome bearing steel, and the steel maker’s material certificate is available on request for OEM and industrial orders. Precision is P0 as standard, with P6 on request.

Sealed and shielded 6202 bearings are filled with grease to about 30% of the free space inside the bearing. Our factory weighs sample bearings before and after filling to find the grease weight for one bearing, then sets that weight on the filling machine. If your application needs a different fill, or a grease for a particular temperature range, state it in the inquiry and we will confirm what we can supply.

Deep groove ball bearings are tested on vibration and noise instruments and supplied at Z3V3 as standard. A common cause of noise complaints is a standard-grade bearing fitted in equipment designed for a quieter one, so if the 6202 goes into a fan or motor where noise matters, say so when you ask for the price. Our article on noise grade and precision class explains the difference.

Before shipment each batch is checked for rotation smoothness, dimensions, grease fill, rust and appearance. Boxes are printed with the model, grade and brand. Rings are marked as you require: your authorised brand, our factory brand, or neutral. If you work from an OEM part number rather than 6202, send it; we confirm it against the standard model before quoting.

Neighbouring sizes

If the 6202 is close but not right, the next bore or the next series is usually the answer.

FAQ

What are the 6202 bearing dimensions in inches?

15 x 35 x 11 mm converts to 0.5906 x 1.3780 x 0.4331 in. The bearing is metric; it is not an inch-series part rounded to millimetres. If the bore of your old bearing measures close to 5/8 in (15.875 mm), it is not a standard 6202.

Why is the 6202 bore 15 mm and not 10 mm?

The usual rule, bore code times 5, starts at code 04. Codes 00, 01, 02 and 03 are fixed at 10, 12, 15 and 17 mm, so 02 means 15 mm.

Can a 6003 replace a 6202?

No. Both have a 35 mm outside diameter, so the 6003 fits the same housing bore, but its bore is 17 mm and its width 10 mm. It will not go on a 15 mm shaft.

How much does a 6202 bearing weigh?

0.045 kg each in FULI's catalog, about 4.5 kg per 100 pieces before packing. Shields and seals change it by a few grams.

Which is better for a ceiling fan or a motorcycle wheel, 6202ZZ or 6202-2RS?

For a motorcycle wheel, 2RS, because the hub sees water and road dirt. For a clean indoor fan or small motor, ZZ is common because the shields add no seal drag. Write the suffix on the order either way.
